I have to take calculus 1 in uni this winter but have been bullshitting my way through math all through highschool with ti89. Whats best way to not get fucked because i barely know the algebra

Why go into calc 1 if you think you arent prepared. Just swallow your pride and take some remedial courses.

I need it for my major. Economics

If you want to actually become an economist you'll need at least a master's degree.

The math in economics undergrad degrees is basically suited for business bros.

If you want to be an economist you'll need calc 1,2,3, as much linear algebra as you can take, ODEs and PDEs, topology, and real analysis for graduate school.

you will need to go far beyond calc 1 if you want a good job in econ

hit the books and practice anon. I found Thomas' Calculus, Early Transcendentals helpful when I got started on calculus

economists aren't needed anymore. the central planners require plausible sounding roasties with college degrees to sell their money printing scheme to the masses and act like we've "progressed" past inflation and consequences

If you don’t understand something, find out what it’s called and search it on YouTube. If your uni has a help centre, go there.

>barely know basic elementary algebra.
honestly I can't even relate to you subhuman engineers. I have known the SIMPLE manipulations of variables, equations, and functions since I was 6. SO NO I CAN NEVER FUCKING UNDERSTAND WHY YOU AMERICAN SHIT HEADS ARE SO FUCKING RETARDED THAT YOUR CAN'T DO THE MOST SIMPLE SHIT THAT A FUCKING RETARD COULD DO.
stop drinking lead in your water. stop causing brain damage to yourself by indulging in the flesh.
jesus christ you are evidence that humanity isn't worth shit, and that I and similar people, obviously transcend your inane faggotry.
Calculus is the easy version, you literal toad. it is literal just a set of rules.
LEARN ALGEBRA LEARN ALGEBRA LEARN ALGEBRA.
it's not even real math, that watered down elementary baby shit. IT'S NOT EVEN REAL FUCKIGN MATH HOLY SHIT I'M GOGIN TO HAVE AN ANEURYSM

If you really feel worried about it you should
A) take a college level algebra course which will get you up to speed with the algebra, trigonometry, and geometry you will need.

or B) prepare yourself, your advisor, and maybe your parents, that you might have to switch from taking the class for a grade, and instead take it as an audit/hearer. Find out ahead of time the last date that you can make the switch and need to get the proper signatures on the form. Talk to your advisor and your Calc I instructor ahead of time and let them know. There is NO shame in this. They don't want you to fail, and they will help you.

>> No.11193615

>>11193613
(cont)
and the point with B) is, after you've taken it as an audit/hearer, then you can retake the class for a grade (probably necessary for your major to do so) and you will know what to expect, and should do much much better.

Take it. Do your best and fail. Retake it and pass given that you've already been studying Calc I for two semesters

Fuck it. Just take the highest level class you can take at this juncture and repeat it if you have to. Spend a semester just toughing it out and getting used to doing math.
>I feel like I bullshitted my way through
Imposter syndrome. Everybody bullshitted through high school. You'd still be in high school either way if you weren't capable of passing a class.
