Those genes they speak of are neutral and don't contribute to phenotype. They are used by population geneticists to determine genetic lineage as none of them are selected. A big problem is aid. There's a common misunderstanding of aid that it is just one group giving money to another. This might be true for charities, but for the large quantities of aid that is giving by countries and the IMF/World Bank, it has to be paid back. Whether it's aid in the form of money, food, construction or whatever it all has to be paid back.

Aid is givin with conditions attached to it. Very common condition is that the country has to remove it's barriers to trade on imports. Result: Multinational firms flood the market with cheap, subsidies food that the African farmers cannot possibly compete with. Any chance of African industries developing are destroyed, mass unemployment, country is further reliant upon aid.

When IMF give aid they tell the government to stop spending. Result: Education, healthcare etc all go to shit. Country is further reliant on aid. It's this kind of thing which makes the spread of aids so bad, the countries just can't afford to combat it effectively.

You might ask why accept aid in the first place. They have no choice, there's so little money in the first place thanks to histories of slavery and colonialism that aid is the only option they have. Also the leaders are usually corrupt and will happily accept aid if it means they can become wealthier.

People always say "Why not let them fend for themselves??" Well, we own all of their stuff. There is western and European capitalization of almost every natural resource in Africa. Ontop of that, we even own their water, they have to buy water tokens in order to get any water. You end up with situations like a woman's shack burning down with her children inside and no one doing anything because they can't afford to. We've pretty much fucked them on every level.
