Artificial Intelligence is this centuries Industrial Revolution. Agree or disagree, and why.

The industrial revolution cost blood. This will cost oil.

ArtifInt is a meme. The stuff an average normie imagines will never come to be. Yes, machines will become increasingly more sophisticated, and become all the more flexible tools (machine learning, neural nets, etc...) but we'll never reach singularity or anything like that, probably not within humankind's lifetime.

The fact is though, the 4th industrial revolution came nonetheless, and it is because automation that does not necessarily require any A.I at all.

You only hate AI because it's popular, at the end of the day, you're a cynical hipster faggot.

Such an eloquent post on /sci/

First of all, it's all about the semantics. A.I. doesn't mean anything now, yet it means multiple things at the same type since it became a meme, a brand and a catchphrase much to the detriment of science.

As for the impossible expectations that most people have towards it: it is laughable. We will never have sci-fi levels of AI and A.G.I...

Deep learning research scientist here. These types of models allow us to approximate highly complex functions and accurately perform tasks that only a few years ago were impossible.

That said, anyone who tells you that these systems are "intelligent" in a human sense is full of shit and/or trying to get a big check from Softbank.

Don't get me wrong, they work really well for what they do. But they are nowhere near "intelligent".

I wish there was a better term than "weak AI' for what exists right now (and will probably continue to exist for the next 10,000 years).
People keep equating artificial humans / human brains in an artificial medium with complex sorting algorithms
