Why is this considered to be different than an iPad in exams?

What are the advantage of scientific calculators over say an iPhone anyway, I understand they are expensive and difficult to learn and program, who would need one ?

I have one of those calculators and I hate it. Every useful function (integration, differentiation, complex numbers, even trig stuff) is hidden behind a huge number of menus or a thousand button clicks. The battery meter is absurdly unreliable. I just use a ti-36x pro for EE now.

iPad doesn't have contract with school, thus there's no kickback scheme to jew the students.

Because calculator companies donate tons of money to universities so that the universities will sell their calculators near or around the university. But even if you sell calculators, no one is going to buy them if they can't use them, so universities let you use them.

In essence, if TI started making blow-up dolls, you could bring blow-up dolls to class.

I wonder who TI has brought in my country, seems to be high up (minister of education?) as they are the only calculators allowed from highschool though university.

I don't know a lot about these calculators, do they have an internet connection? I feel like that's the deal-breaker with most exam-acceptable devices.
