this is why chinese dominate physics grad school but absolutely suck at becoming real physicists. why even bother giving PhD's to them. they should just make another degree called ChD for them

thats a lot more than 90% of undergrad math classes. profs that dont give partial credit fucking suck though

I ended up with a 7/10 semester score

fucking unbeliveable

That's nothing. My dynamics class was 10% homework and 90% exams. There were three exams of three questions each. Each question on each exam was worth as much as your entire homework grade. Be careful not to make any mistakes.

I understand the real world doesn't give partial credit, but you aren't forced to solve problems in a extreme time crunch without any access to materials besides what you have memorized

Stfu. Unless you're talking about labs, 80% of the total grade is the bare minimum that tests should be worth. Stop being little bitches. Specially you, OP. It's a MULTIPLE CHOICE test ffs.

Damn I took EM and the tests were only 35% of the grade. That being said he didn't curve anything and the averages for the tests were often between 30-60% throughout the sequence so an average student is already down 17.5% of their grade and at a B- just from the test portion. My school wasn't out to fail people and most passed EM with a C, on the other hand I'm not even exaggerating when I say there wasn't a single A in EM1. At least my class. Personally I thought he just gave shitty tests though as I managed a B in EM1 and B+ in EM2 and out of my entire degree I never got below an A-.

And not even the (very few) women have ever complained about this.

What's with all the people itt that don't like having their grade determined mostly by exams? I hate being encumbered by homework and assignments; I would rather spend the majority of my time learning and practicing as I please and ultimately prove my knowledge on a handful of exams. Courses that weigh homework and assignments anywhere close to exams just provide colluding, cheating brainlets with the opportunity to pass, regardless of how well they actually understand the material.

I had a professor who worked doing analytics for a sports team. He let every test be open book because he said in the real world you have resources and you have to use them. Pretty cool guy in that regard. Most professors could care less tho.

Gee, it's almost like there's a pretty relevant difference between these two scenarios.
Which brings up another question I have. Why do engineering profs always force you into group projects, usually not even letting you pick your groups, and say "engineering is about working together, and you don't always get to choose who you work with" but when there's a test, it's "what the fuck do you think this is? engineers don't work together, you have to do it by yourself"

>"I memorized all the material for the test"
>"now I have a complete understanding of the application of this"
>"What do you mean solve this problem? I don't see any question marks on these documents?"
Tests work for evaluating whether or not someone can replicate material presented to them, they do nothing for demonstrating application of something learned.
