If you don't have a reason to disagree with his statement concerning science having been wrong, which is based on some kind of induction at least, then you're baseless disagreeing with him on feelings.

That said, I doubt we'll develop FTL due to the difficulties modern science, and indeed any logical understanding of causality places on FTL, but admit that it's possible we'll find something to allow it. But placing ardently believing in FTL just because of this is like ardently believing that ceratopsid dinosaurs are still alive and insisting that modern zoology must have missed something, since we used to believe coelacanths were extinct but they turned out to still be alive.

In general people have no idea with how advanced and stringent our scientific model of the universe actually is.

They all think it's """theories""" (just some guesses) they don't realize the actual mathematical reasoning and proofs underpinning it at all the core.

The average person doesn't realize that we have most likely already figured out about 70% of all physics and we only have a couple of gaps left to connect it all into a single "theory of everything" unifying all forces.

He's right and you're wrong to argue from your standpoint. FTL warp drives are possible even without breaking current physics via Alcuberrie drive. Sure it requires negative energy to generate negative mass, but the fundamentals are there.

Your issue is not the physics but rather your own understanding of it. Physics will change in the next 100-1000 years. However one thing that won't change is if they're throwing impossible stuff that are not related to physics but completely unprovable or disproven. FTL travel includes time travelling, which breaks causality by allowing effects to exist before their causes. Causality is one of the most important physical phenomena we observe and without it, everything other than maths would be senseless gibberish. Since breaking causality would violate 99% of all laws and completely destroy all observable Nature, we believe it is impossible to violate causality. We have additional physical and mathematical reasons to assume FTL and time travelling are impossible, not just our hard-on for causality.

Alcubierre drive does not allow FTL, travelling large distances in less time than light would by surfing on the vacuum and literally shortening the path through spacetime is not the same as travelling above c. FTL means "faster than light" and refers exclusively to tachyons. Calling the useage of ST contraction or of a wormhole "FTL" is erroneous and error inducing in others. FTL explicitly includes time traveling whereas wormholes and Alcubierre drives do not.
There is absolutely no theory that can even hope to scratch causality. Stop adhering to fairy tales of massive craft accelerating past c without consuming infinite energy.

closed timelike curves would bring inherently unpredictable events about but surely it wouldn't "completely destroy all observable Nature", whatever that means. and even if they were possible it doesn't mean that time travel to the past is something that could be done easily for free by anyone, so far it looks like it would require enormous amount energy and negative at that. so our universe would not necessarily turn into complete mess

Through our current understanding of science, we cannot think up any feasible way in which FTL travel would be possible. That doesn't mean that current science says it's impossible, just that we don't know any way by which it would be possible.
