Most of us can't even understand what a night sky should look like because we exist in extreme night glow from the time we're born. I want to be an astronomer so this is an unfortunate point for me.

Also I've never seen a glorious night. Magnitude 4-5 skies for me. :(

Yeah that would suck I guess, depending where you live. I live in the most populated area in Ireland, there's satellite towns all over the place around dublin so it's a hassle to get outside of town.

I used to live in Alaska, until I was 4. I have recollections of the neighborhood waking up at 2 am for us all to see them, and I even remember pieces here and there. That's nothing comparable to seeing one today though. I was 4. :(

Astronomy fag here, but sorry to say the milky way is not nearly as pretty IRL as these long exposure photos. Compared to a camera, our eyes suck so we really can't get as much light as one but it still is nice to see thousands of stars when you can hardly even see your own hand.
