going by classical gr: you dont take an eternity to reach the horizon and can pass the horizon just fine too. inside, no timelike/space like curves can move you behind the horizon again. every path leads to the singularity. The "only" thing we dont understand is the singularity, as our theory breaks down there. The rest of the black hole is "regular" spacetime. but as far as we are concerned (unless and until we actually jump into a black hole to go and see for ourselves), there is nothing inside it except for completely undifferentiated mass, charge, and angular momentum, which can all be described as properties of the horizon itself, so you may as well think of all the mass being stuck in an infinitely thin 2d shell

a black hole's event horizon is literally the edge of the universe, there is nothing beyond it
