It's very simple. Down syndrome is when you have three of a certain chromosome instead of two. There is no two-and-a-half. If you have Down syndrome you get aborted. No "degrees" are involved unless you're splitting hairs about the exact amount of mental retardation being prevented, but again that isn't relevant.

I wouldn't extend it to a blanket "autism" for newborns but maybe there's a clearer demarcation that's possible to make with better understanding, and then a line could be drawn there.
