Hello /sci/ /v/irgin fa/tg/uy here. I have a statement and I would really like to get real answer to it. I tried asking other boards but they just assumed troll and then it was a shitpile from there. Anyway here goes:

"People have killed and do kill for the sake of religion even today but it is like that in every instance of value system. People have bombed, terrorized, killed and led wars over both religion, socialism, liberalism, communism and every single other ethos you can imagine.

The problem is not religion or ethics or political standing but rather the irrational extremism that value systems produce. Even if you do not agree with them, anyone who believes that the world should be viewed upon with objective eyes should also understand that other people have other views and thus accept other people. This also goes for religius people - just as it should with aethists.

So when you as an "aethist" try and bash religion as "stupid", "violent" and archaeic in any form, you are in fact just as bad and annoying as the religious people who try and convert you. Even if you think of yourself as enlightend or more intelligent, you are in fact just as unintelligent, annoying and provocative as the people you accuse of just those traits.

If you ever bashed other people based on their personal believes you are just as bad as what you think they are. Concluding, I regred to inform you that you are excately what you hate about religion."

Religion is not stupid , you can believe in god or whoever you want if you respect other's opinion

But telling to the atheist that they will burn in hell (assuming that hell exists) not believing in your god means that your god is just a selfish bastard. So you don't even respect your god's instructions

If utilitarian thinking is completely objective, then killing is acceptable as long as it obtains a goal. So, I think, in the eyes of religious fanatics, killing is acceptable (as it loses it's moral banning under the correct jihad-esque conditions.)

An ill minded objectivist can go around killing too thinking it's cool (see columbine)

The truth is, you have to be enlightened, accept nihilism and eventually existentialism as a way of determining values, but when you're so backed into religion, you can never get that far.

It's one of the few situations where being in the center is actually very bad.

Well this is, as noted, not about aethism vs religion but a question of wether the aethists are right in belittling religion so openly. I am aware that religion does the same thing, but should not the self-proclaimed "objectivists" be better than that? Is that not the very foundation of the idea that science and objecitivity is better then religion?

If the problem that aethists have with religion is that they are too loudmouthed and try and convert others to their cause, are the aethists not just as bad when they do the exact same while trying to rediculing religion?

I haven't read the thread due to time but I would say that generally there are some ideas that should be accepted by all. Ideas that make logical sense should be the norm and if others disagree they should have the explanation presented to them and taught until they understand. If they can come up with logical reasons for why the explanation is false, then their idea should prevail.
