Psychology is not real. It used to be and once had a chance to be real. But instead of believing in reality, most psychologists prefer their patients live in a fantasies that they help construct. If that doesn't work, then the patients are sent to a specialists who prescribes non-symptomatic opioids (SSRIs among others) so that their patients are more amenable to fantasy.

The confusion surrounding psychology probably has to do with what exactly it purports to study, psyche is a slippery term. Is it mind? Is it brain? Is it personality and social interactions? Relationships and it’s effect on mind? Diseases of mind/brain?

Psychologists are probably wary of intervention unless it is absolutely necessary this is also a cultural legal thing. We don’t live in a society with the ideology of “maximize each individual’s output”.
