Can I get a quick rundown on what was wrong with their thesis? Specifics would be appreciated.

>> No.11000764

>>10999635
do you have a copy of the actual version they submitted?

all i've seen is a few of their papers, and there was one about quantum groups that looked like it had some semi-decent stuff in it, probably spoonfed to them by Majid since it looks like exactly his kind of stuff, but they drew some really loony conclusions from it. their work on the big bang singularity is pretty nonsense handwaving though, and there are some other places in their writings where there is completely bogus crap, like where they say something deep-sounding about foucault pendula, but it's totally unrelated to what they're doing and they use it to make some super-woo sounding claims that are like "because foucault pendula don't precess on the north pole, therefore by analogy we conjecture ..." where the conjecture is some super deep-sounding jargony quantum groups thing. it's obvious nonsense

anyhow if anybody wants to go over one of their papers or some pages from their thesis, post a link and i'd be happy to go over it. it's pretty hilarious but at the same time they are doing some fancy QFT/string-esque group theory stuff

This bomber jacket picture of these two Bogoffs is 100% based on and/or shooped from a picture of Elaine and her mom which is (was?) on the mantle above the fire place at that house on Vermack Ridge. I guess the guy moved out of the house on Vermack (Wermacht), and I noticed they renamed the church on Chamblee-Dunwoody from Calvary Chapel (Calvary something?) to some other name.

There is a picture I've seen of Elaine of her mom which is the absolute spitting likeness of this pic of these two Bogoffs here. That's Elaine on the right and her mom on the left. It is undeniably!

If you could see that picture of Elaine and her mom, probably really both two trannies who are really biological males, then I think you would agree with me that the likeness of this bomber jacket photo to that other photo is unmistakable.

The faces, the facial expressions, the contours of the mouths and eyes especially, the relative heights of the the two parties, the angling of their two bodies... everything: this bomber jacket is a meme of that other photo.

My speculation is that the reason the Bogoffs' faces are all fucked up is not (totally?) due to botched surgery but rather because different people wear Bogoff masks to present themselves as the Bogoffs in public. Therefore, it's not that they acquired the photo; it's that the people in that photo wear the Bogoff disguises at times.

This is actually my real name and Jon is just my English name (also real), and it is a man's name. Ending with an A means "girl" in the Romance languages, usually, but not so in Hebrew. Arcón is the title of the Governor of Jerusalem (who was at times also the King of Judah and the King of Israel), and Gedalia was the last person to hold that office before the Babylonian captivity began. I hold that office today, that's why I have that name and also why they call me El Arcón.

Man, seriously. If you like fiction, I believe that you will like this fun and fast-paced book. Like star wars with light-sabers and the force, my genre combines elements of sci-fi and fantasy. You will like it. I am quite proud of it.

>We propose in this research a new solution regarding the existence and the content of the initial spacetime singularity. In the context of topological field theory we consider that the initial singularity of space-time corresponds to a zero size singular gravitational instanton characterized by a Riemannian metric configuration (++++) in dimension D = 4.
Connected with some unexpected topological data corresponding to the zero scale of space-time, the initial singularity is thus not considered in terms of divergences of physical fields but can be resolved in the frame of topological field theory. We get this result from the physical observation that the pre-spacetime is in a thermal equilibrium at the Planck scale. Therefore it should be subject to the KMS condition.
We consequently consider that this KMS state might correspond to a unification between "physical state" (Planck scale) and "topological state" (zero scale). Then it is suggested that the "zero scale singularity" can be understood in terms of topological invariants, in particular the first Donaldson invariant.
Therefore, we here introduce a new topological index, connected with 0 scale, of the form Z = Tr (-1)s, which we call "singularity invariant". Interestingly, this invariant corresponds also to the invariant topological current yield by the hyperfinite II* von Neumann algebra describing the zero scale of space-time. In such a context we conjecture that the problem of inertial interaction might be explained in terms of topological amplitude connected with the singular zero size gravitational instanton corresponding to the initial singularity of spacetime.

>> No.11004302

>>11004281
sounds like nonsense. Their "singularity invariant" looks like a carbon copy of the Witten index, and the rest just seems to be some loosely connected terms with no real coherent meaning. For example, what does it mean to be "in thermal equilibrium at the planck scale?" Either you're in thermal equilibrium or you're not...

Also, why would there be a "zero-size" instanton AT the singularity? The instanton location and size are free parameters in any field theory defined on a homogenous spacetime.

>Can I get a quick rundown on what was wrong with their thesis? Specifics would be appreciated.

Their thesis is better than an average thesis is. It is speculative, but then we are talking about Planck scale physics here. Read this for details:

https://motls.blogspot.com/2005/06/bogdanoff-papers.html

They want to resolve the initial singularity of the Universe - a very difficult question
They open a good question whether the signature of spacetime is allowed to fluctuate
They conclude that it can
Near the origin of time, they know that they are in the Planckian regime
They propose a new relation between this Planckian regime and the "zero scale" regime
The zero scale regime is described by a topological field theory
They even define what the right observables should be - and in my opinion, this is one of the punch lines that shows that they're either pretty smart or someone helped them: the observables are replaced by homology cycles on the moduli space of gravitational instantons; are you sure that this won't be the ingenious final explanation of the origin time in the geometric language that we will understand in 2030? I am not sure - it could well be an extension of the ideas of quantum foam from topological string theory
They show a lot of formulae - many of them apparently being correct basic formulae copied from elsewhere - involving quantum groups, Lagrangians of N=2 supergravity, Donaldson theory, KMS states, topological field theory, various index-like invariants etc.
They thank the right people, including C. Kounnas and S. Majid (a co-father of quantum groups). One of the acknowledgements that could have determined the fate of the paper was thanking to Edward Witten for "some determinant conversations" and it appears in the last sentence; otherwise the paper can't be classified as a string theory paper

>it could well be an extension of the ideas of quantum foam from topological string theory
I can tell you for sure that when people engaged in plagiarism-like activities to rebrand my research with their own new content appended, they were definitely using "spin foams" as the label. Particularly: when that talk given in October 2009 at LSU, just after I published in September 2009, was "accidentally" misdated to October 2008, and then out of several archive files of the physics talks at LSU, only the one with the mis-dated spin foams talk was "coinceidentally removed," that talk was given about "spin foams."

I detail all of this at length in my free book, Section 3.2 (pic rel):
