I'll learn the minimum amount required when i absolutely have to (binary for subnetting for example, since i work in networking), but other than that i'd like to avoid it as much as possible. I read a lot, mostly philosophy and psychology and i score decently on iq test, but doing math for longer than 10 mins literally drains me mentally and physically and if there's one thing i'm sure i would not like to do in my life that's fucking math. Do you also hate math frens? what are my options?

quit being a lazy fuck and do some math. if you want to go into a science major there's no avoiding it, even if you go into bio.

Geology. You'll need to pass physics. My university had Physics for Science Majors as a requirement which required level 2 calculus but you can use your university's tutoring system to pass calculus.

I failed Physics the first time I took it, but not everyone is born with an innate ability to understand Newtonian motion and lots of my Geo major friends struggled with either Physics or Chemistry so you shouldn't let it bother you. Frictionless surfaces, rotary motion, and endless plains just pissed me off but I got through it.

After that Geology is camping, drinking beer around the fire with your buds, and looking at rocks. It's pretty goddamned chill.

Do Psychology. All you gotta do is stats. Although mathematics helps if you want to get creative when thinking about and modeling how people interact. I hope to see a lot more maths in the field soon. However if you just want to go to school and do fuck all maths do Psych.

finance. you need to understand some 8th grade math, but it's generally real easy.

most of the jobs are really sales jobs that just require you can BS about understanding what's going on in the financial system, and DESU no one really has 100% since Adam Smith

What’s it like being a geologist? I’m currently a chemistry major and in a lab and slowly realizing I hate synthetic lab work. I’m taking a geochem course next semester and considering switching to a geochem track if I like it. Being outside and working on physics/math problems seems like a comfy lifestyle

no fren, i see reading philosophy and psychology more as a hobby, but as actual jobs they're on par with gender studies (which IS basically a bullshido psychology)

I ended up with a geology degree but work in engineering. I'm paid far too much to quit though so I'm stuck here awhile.

My geology friends are working in various geology fields right now.

1. Does soil samples for Utah Geological Survey. He drives up and down Utah in his truck, takes equipment with him, works alone, pounds an instrument into the ground, brings the sample back to the lab. It's undergraduate grunt work.

2. is working at a mine in the Henry Mountains https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Mountains I've talked to him exactly twice since graduation. He sits in a trailer on site and is the first person that looks at samples brought up from the mine. If he sees anything interesting he hands it off to the higher up geologist. It's undergraduate grunt work.

3. Is working for a company or the government or something. I honestly don't know which. He checks building sites for foundation work. He explains it like this 'I show up, look at the hole they've dug, and sign off on whether or not it's up to standard, and leave.' He's there to make sure that they're following procedure on digging the hole for the foundation before they set gravel and pour cement.

4. Was working for a construction company. He wakes up each morning at 4 am, heads out to the site at 5 am and looks at drill cores. He admitted that the guys in the truck know more geology than he does because they've been drilling for 25 years and he just graduated last year. Every morning, 5 am, head out. He quit back in May? June? ish. to go to school in Arizona.

Finally there's the guy who worked up at Kennecott Copper Mine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bingham_Canyon_Mine out near Salt Lake City. He was working at the drill site. His job was unloading drill cores to have them sent up to the lab. He got fired because he's a dumbass. Said he hated his job because it had nothing to do with Geology. I kept telling him to stick it out a couple years till a lab position opened.

Cont. but the dumbass hated his job so much I can only imagine he was doing a half assed job till they fired him. Said he's going to apply to graduate school. Right now I don't know where he is.

Thank you for the detailed reply. What kind of engineering job do you have? Do you enjoy it outside of the money? Also, it sounds like your friends have kind of shitty jobs— Do you know if people who go to grad school for geosciences find it gratifying?
