The obsession with thorium is doing more harm than good when it comes to nuclear power. They make it out to be the only safe alternative and make other reactors out to be producing unmanageable amounts of super dangerous materials, while we already have safe reactors in use today producing electricity for us. And the waste "problem" is not dangerous, and simply an inconvenience. The nuclear industry is not the only industry that has to handle and take care of its waste. Its not unique, and its more strictly controlled than other industry's.

We already have good and proven reactor designs in use today, we should focus on them until thorium gets off the drawing board and out of the lab.

>thorium gets off the drawing board and out of the lab.
It did once and the plant was always breaking down

>> No.10756396

while LFTRs could be safe, the onsite reprocessing plant needed may not be safe. Also good luck getting the NRC to approve onsite reprocessing.

Really? Do you actually get an appreciable amount of these to make extracting them cheaper than mining? And I can't think of any electronics that use any of those.

I pretty much agree. The real hype should be around molten salt cooled reactors, molten fuel reactors, and passively safe designs in general

there wouldn't be any work left to be done with how goddamn efficient LFTRs are compared to the shitty Indian-tier ones we're currently using

I can't wait for the boomers to die off

This is why they clamp our umbilical cords and vaccinate us. If we destroy the superstructure which does these things, in short order, we will have LFTR and more.

Everything is about control.

How small can you make these reactions? Can I make one in my garage? Looks neat.
