Why are people not more hyped about it?

It seems like an entirely feasible long term grid storage solution.

Because gravity storage beats it by a huge margin

Yes, sure. If you have a bare mountain available. But most places don't.

What you are looking for is a vanadium redox flow battery.

power to gas for gridscale? What a joke. What a complete joke. You see anon flow batteries can already store electricity for months or more. There's even a new battery in the works called an air breathing aqueous sulfur flow battery. It stores a reasonable amount of electricity, but the real advantage is that it consist principally of sulfur. Sulfur is CHEAP! Sulfur is so cheap that we have huge pyramids of it because that's the only economical way to dispose of it. We could make HUUUUUUUUGEEEEE cheap batteries.

There are other flow battery chemistries out there anon.

You can build rail storage on barely sloping land and get the same effect

flow batteries are better trainlet.

Too many problems with flow batteries. Saltwater batteries would be better because of their extremely low cost.

if you mean sodium batteries maybe. Batteries are becoming competitive with compressed air energy storage and pumped hydro.
