>What, then, are You, O my God — what, I ask, but the Lord God? For who is Lord but the Lord? Or who is God save our God? Most high, most excellent, most potent, most omnipotent; most piteous and most just; most hidden and most near; most beauteous and most strong, stable, yet contained of none; unchangeable, yet changing all things; never new, never old; making all things new, yet bringing old age upon the proud and they know it not; always working, yet ever at rest; gathering, yet needing nothing; sustaining, pervading, and protecting; creating, nourishing, and developing; seeking, and yet possessing all things.

>The techies may answer that even if almost all biological species are eliminated eventually, many species survive for thousands or millions of years, so maybe techies too can survive for thousands or millions of years. But when large, rapid changes occur in the environment of biological species, both the rate of appearance of new species and the rate of extinction of existing species are greatly increased. Technological progress constantly accelerates, and techies like Ray Kurzweil insist that it will soon become virtually explosive; consequently, changes come more and more rapidly, everything happens faster and faster, competition among self-prop systems becomes more and more intense, and as the process gathers speed the losers in the struggle for survival will be eliminated ever more quickly. So, on the basis of the techies' own beliefs about the exponential acceleration of technological development, it's safe to say that the life-expectancies of human-derived entities, such as man-machine hybrids and human minds uploaded into machines, will actually be quite short. The seven-hundred-year or thousand-year life-span to which some techies aspire is nothing but a pipe-dream.

Is Ted right?

Relationships are becoming increasingly polygynous, and gradually fewer men reproduce (selection pressure increase and evolution speeds up). Let's hope we are breeding for the right features.

>As for our constitutional rights, consider for example that of freedom of the press. We certainly don’t mean to knock that right; it is very important tool for limiting concentration of political power and for keeping those who do have political power in line by publicly exposing any misbehavior on their part. But freedom of the press is of very little use to the average citizen as an individual. The mass media are mostly under the control of large organizations that are integrated into the system. Anyone who has a little money can have something printed, or can distribute it on the Internet or in some such way, but what he has to say will be swamped by the vast volume of material put out by the media, hence it will have no practical effect. To make an impression on society with words is therefore almost impossible for most individuals and small groups. Take us (FC) for example. If we had never done anything violent and had submitted the present writings to a publisher, they probably would not have been accepted. If they had been been accepted and published, they probably would not have attracted many readers, because it’s more fun to watch the entertainment put out by the media than to read a sober essay. Even if these writings had had many readers, most of these readers would soon have forgotten what they had read as their minds were flooded by the mass of material to which the media expose them. In order to get our message before the public with some chance of making a lasting impression, we’ve had to kill people.

Can you really argue against this?

>Plant based diet

Can't get quality protein from plants. Hard to get available iron too.

Over-consumption of green vegetables can lead to problems such as kidney stones.

>Dont stay too long in the sun

Most people don't spend enough time in the sun. Vitamin D deficiency, unconstrained bacteria growth on skin, and depression are the outcomes of this.

>only eat healthy fats (think avocados, seeds, nuts)

The key factor is omega 3 to omega 6 ratio. Omega 3 good, omega 6 bad. Nuts, etc. have significantly more omega 6 than omega 3, wiping out the benefits. All it's doing is making you fat, and the evidence is pointing towards the fact that high-energy-density foods of which fats are no. 1 are what's making people obese.

>ditch animal products

Animals are the only source of quality protein.

Fish, in particular Salmon, is one of the few sources of omega 3 with little omega 6.

Red meat is the best source of available iron.

Sounds legit dude. I mean, nutritional deficiencies often fucks you up, and a certain amount of fucking might make you sad and miserable, but the specific statement that most cases of Major Depressive Disorder in the well-fed west is actually magnesium deficiency is something that I would need to proper source on to believe.

Magnesuim deficiency seems bad though, but I cannot see depression a direct symptom on wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium_deficiency#Signs_and_symptoms
However, I know that depression is a direct symptom of deficiency of several other vitamins, for example vitamin D or B12.

> calcium overload
This I can actually verify, as depression is listed as a symptom on wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercalcaemia
But it seems that it's hard to acheive this state in conjunction with magnesium deficiency because mag.def. is often associated with low calcium levels.

Reading this page now:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biology_of_depression

> Factors spanning these causative groups include nutritional deficiencies in magnesium, vitamin D, and tryptophan with situational origin but biological impact.

The page lists a lot of other biological factors too. And there's psychological, societal or situational factors to depression as well. Hence, it seems that the statement
>depression is usually magnesium deficiency or calcium overload
is not easily defended.

Anyways, I've recently started taking magnesium supplements for better sleep (and possble also for depression now?), and I am pretty sure I do not have hypercalcemia. I also take vit D. and B12, but I eat a nontrivial amount of fish/meat/eggs, so I don't think B12 is a problem. Thanks for sharing still if you did not have proper sources.

Studies with mice show that intermittent fasting reduces ischemic injury to the cardiovascular and neurologic body systems (e.g. heart attack and stroke). One study demonstrated increased life span of rats by intermittent fasting, by up to 20% in males, with the optimal regimen being fasting one day out of every three. As far as I know, intermittent fasting is the only method of prolonging lifespan with any actual scientific evidence behind it.

Even doing all this you only add a few years, and those added years are when you are already very old.

We do not want to live longer in an old body, we want to be old in a young body.

All the diet and nutrition in the world will at most only add a few years (healthier yes, but a health 90 year old is still pathetic compared to the average 30 year old)
