You can tell what's an upper middle class person by the number of college degrees they possess. Just look at their salary.

You can tell a high-IQ person by the number of hours of time they spend taking classes. Just look at their GPA and IQ.

We can see it all here. And again, if you're an upper middle class person like me and work in my field of math, you probably work about as hard as a low IQ person. To some degree, you may be doing something right.
There is a simple way to tell: do you look dumb to the average Joe working at a restaurant? (A higher IQ would have a higher GPA)

I must be an atypical CS student then. My reaction in similar cases is often quite the opposite. But then, I realize I could be a better fit at a mathematics degree.

I don't know what you're always kvetching about because for all practical purposes, Computer Science IS programming. Yes, you learn a lot of theory and a lot of math but when you finish your job is 99% like going to be prpgramming. And also, I'm sure civil engineering students aren't thinking about how exciting it is going to be to memorize different types of rebar and how now to name them so I don't see why you single out CS students.
