Can you get the genetic material from a person then create the opposite sexual gamete and breed the gametes to produce new cells?

>> No.10629160

No. You can create a female version of males but you can't create a male version of females.

What you do is you grab 2 cells. Scrape the X chromosome from one cell and replace the Y chromosome in the other cell with the X chromosome.

Then grab that genetic code and insert it into a female egg to give birth to a female clone of originally male DNA.

There could be some complications due to having X chromosome duplicates but it's the same effect as having inbreeding between siblings for 1 generation on just 1 chromosome. So it should in theory not be the world's end.

I'm trying to learn genetics from Brookes (recommended book from catalog) but it feels like I'm stuck since I can't come with simple answer like this.

You could always grab an x from the father

>> No.10630004

>>10629733
then it would look more like a clone version of the father

Could I legally do this with a person's DNA without their permission?

Permission or not you cant do it because of ethics fags

It would be fucked beyond recognition, sex linked genes are pretty fucking important for building a functioning female human.

I'd just have to pass it off as getting the sample from a friend. Not like they'd check.

Why not?

Cloning is real simple in theory, grab a nucleus from someone, stick it in an egg to replace the egg's nucleus.

To switch sex, you need to also muck with chromosomes in said nucleus. I can only imagine how much harder that would be and like >>10629160 said, you'd only be able to go from male to female because you'd need a Y chromosome for any male. However, Y chromosome doesn't do much so I guess you could borrow one from another person and still basically get a clone.

>> No.10631079

>>10630962
you need a Y-chromosome for the f-m clone
>>10631063
mtDNA nuclear DNA mismatch would probably cause some nasty problems

>> No.10631080

>>10631063
Yeah, the Y chromosome only has like 10 activated genes in total, and they're all responsible for sperm production and stuff. The remaining mutations are pretty much nonsense, so nothing would change if you just stole a Y chromosome from a stranger.

>> No.10631195

>>10631079
I would just use my own y chromosome though. Could I make an egg cell from someone elses somatic cell?

>> No.10631224

>>10631195
I dont know all the science but they wouldn't bother extracting a somatic nucleus to transplant into an egg if the could just make the somatic cell an into an egg.
You'd have undifferentiat it completely and then have the ideal chemical environment for it to act like an egg.
