When mathematicians were tools of war working under nobles that's when you had people like Gauss, advancing application while simultaneously building the autism tunnels. It was a system where the autism tunnels were meant to be digged up and given to the nobles in the form of something useful. Now mathematicians are just braindead retards good only at playing their particular academic bureaucracy. There's no life and there is no meaning. It's all cancer. We seriously need to go back.

Math grad here. 99% of it does have applications. Even Number Theory stuff, although I never did anything in that region.
Of course the applications are towards other areas of research, either within math itself or in other disciplines.

t. Worked as an engineer for Japanese engineering firm. Learning a language to that level takes serious dedication. Bi-weekly duolingo sessions don’t cut it.

Pure math is rent-seeking. It's all useless, your interest in these ultra specialized fields is entirely a COPE because you know you'd never be able to work on actually interesting and difficult problems where competition is high (P vs NP, any millennium prize problem).

I know: Group theory gets used in quantum mechanics and elsewhere in physics, but the group theory used is trivial. E.g., never hear of Sylow's theorem, the Jordan-Holder theorem, the Feit and Thompson work on simple groups, etc. For group representations,you need to know very little about group theory to do group representations (I wrote my undergrad honors paper in it). Heck, I wrote a paper on multidimensional, distribution-free hypothesis tests based on groups of measure-preserving transformations, and the group theory needed was trivial. Similarly for the use of group theory in ergodic theory, ODE, and integer linear programming. Groups are nice, but really need to know only about 10 pages of the basics and can pick it up in an hour whenever need it. Or, you want group theory to attack Rubik's cube?

US mathematics' long, disastrous, self-destructive love affair with algebra, algebraic geometry, algebraic topology, algebraic number theory has been a major contributor to shrinking Federal research grants to mathematics, shrinking departments, mathematicians who'd swap their Ph.D. for an electrician's license, and the technology world putting mathematics on the back burner if not in the trash. Can cover nearly all abstract algebra in 1 word: Useless.

Yes. If you don't have any friends it's your own fault, this much is true. But the fact that immigrants all cluster together into tight-knit enclaves isn't because they're virtuous pro-social community builders. If you live somewhere foreign to you and you don't speak the language and you don't make friends, that's because you didn't do those things. It's the same phenomenon that occurs when American expats all only hang out with each other. It's not good, it's bad.
And what's more, feeling comfortable culturally living in your native country and speaking your native language isn't privilege and framing it as such is bizarre. Your position sounds like an entitled one.
