Yes, they are. They were bred for aggression and the ability to maintain their grip when biting a target. Of course they're inherently dangerous.
The people who disagree do so because they believe that their own personal experiences of not having their face bitten off justifies discarding a mountain of evidence. Pit bulls are extremely risky dogs to adopt when you're raising a child (for that matter, so are German shepherds) and they look fucking disgusting.
