Anyone else in the semiconductor industry?

No but I do semis in grad school.

What can you tell me about the industry, OP? What should I have on my mind when looking for employment?

I'm not.

I've been doing a lot of related research over the past few years, and though it might sound strange, so far as I can tell you're the only human in the semiconductor industry.

truly the most virgin material

I am, I honestly think the industry is way more boring than academia

Truely the most CHAD metal

Are we talking semiconductors like transistors and microchips, or manufacturing the actual materials?

I do r&d for embedded systems when needed for part of my job. Lots of low-level, bare metal stuff

used to be. Made the ion microscopes used for chip prototype and manufacturing process diagnosis. Got a bunny suit tour of an IBM foundry once.

I also have a friend who pulled the silicon crystals for wafer manufacture.

Both would be part of the industry. Every step of the way is important.
