Very disillusioned with academics, give me advice please

>studying finance at a European uni
>went to top 10 national hs, had straight As
>home for spring break to visit parents
>electrician guy comes to install some wires
>charges 10 bucks for a 5 minute job
>minimal wage is 3 bucks here, engineers make about 1k/month on average (prices are lower too)
>whips out Iphone X as he gets into his Tesla on the way out
>also in very good shape because of the physical work he does

I only started studying finance to make money, I am passionate about philosophy and economics. Now it seems trades are a way better option

Should I go into trades? I speak 6 languages, and I have pretty good social skills too, so I think I'd make a good enterpreneur. These jobs also seem like they're never going to be automated.

How do I tell this to my university educated middle class parents? Will these jobs ever fade out of relevance? Is it worth it to pursue trades and write philosophy as my hobby/second job?

No, the earnings growth diminishes faster and at a lower level.
t. Tradie who is desperately trying to get that shit off my resume
>but he made $10 in 5 mins, that's like $120 an hour
Only because it was a bs job, real hour+ jobs you can't charge $120/hr labor or people stop asking for your services. Plus overhead and all.
There is a limit to what one person can do and a cost associated with hiring help.
So imagine you can realistically work 6 hours a day long term (can't literally warp drive to the next job), you charge that pretty exorbitant $120 an hour, minus $40 overhead minimum, $80/hr for 6 hours, for the year $124,800 less taxes.
That's pretty much the top end btw.
Versus banking where you could get up to the $400,000 neighborhood at the top end, not including corporate officers.
A wall street senior _analyst_ makes that in salary plus bonus.

Don't know why i would need to say this to a finance major but don't judge a man on his belongings in this day and age. These tradies have banks throwing loans at them from day 1.

probably varies a lot where you live. I'm from Canad and trades is a very solid career. Electrician will have you earning about 90k + over time. And that isn't me pulling numbers out of my ass, you can just look up union journeyman rates. And that comes with excellent benefits, pension, etc.
My dad works as a powerline technician and grossed almost 180k last year, granted with quite a bit of overtime, but still, he makes almost $60 an hour now as a foreman. I have a masters in Chemistry and made 44k in comparison.

The university intellectuals also play an important role in carrying out the System's trick. Though they like to fancy themselves independent thinkers, the intellectuals are (allowing for individual exceptions) the most oversocialized, the most conformist, the tamest and most domesticated, the most pampered, dependent, and spineless group in America today. As a result, their impulse to rebel is particularly strong. But, because they are incapable of independent thought, real rebellion is impossible for them. Consequently they are suckers for the System's trick, which allows them to irritate people and enjoy the illusion of rebelling without ever having to challenge the System's basic values.

Because they are the teachers of young people, the university intellectuals are in a position to help the System play its trick on the young, which they do by steering young people's rebellious impulses toward the standard, stereotyped targets: racism, colonialism, women's issues, etc. Young people who are not college students learn through the media, or through personal contact, of the "social justice" issues for which students rebel, and they imitate the students. Thus a youth culture develops in which there is a stereotyped mode of rebellion that spreads through imitation of peers—just as hairstyles, clothing styles, and other fads spread through imitation.
