Should I study Palaeontology or Marine Biology at university?
My interests are extinct organisms, deep sea organisms and aliens. I am infatuated with weird life.

marine biologist sounds way cooler

You know Jack Horner never graduated, I think he found out later in life hes got really bad dyslexia and he just kept failing out, but hed worked on so many digs he just became an authority via practical experience.

paleo molecular biology is where its at
most exciting sites have been excavated, however molecular markers of primordial microorganisms haven't been elucidated

also, specialising that early in your path is shooting yourself in the foot

>BSc biology/molecular biology
>MSc marine biology
>PhD in whatever you find interesting at that point if you haven't lost the drive

Yeah, marine biology would definitely be awesome if I could get to study and explore the deep sea. I'm not sure the chances of getting to research the deep sea as opposed to shallow ocean though. What is oceanography like?

At university, palaeo stuff is lumped in with geology/earth science stuff. Can you go down the palaeo path through biology? Wouldn't molecular bio be 99% in a lab though?

Or geology with a biology/paleo concentration if that's available.

Sadly the BSc in geology at the uni I'm going to is heavily into rocks and not much more. There are is more options for palaeo related stuff in postgrad though.

Shallow ocean could still be pretty cool when you're looking at seamounts.
