Brady Haran alone makes the only decent popular science/math videos

>popular science
Popular science is intended to make you believe that you understand a thing which actually you don't understand, and to gratify what I believe to be one of the lowest desires of modern people, namely the superficial curiosity about the latest discoveries of science.

are you fucking kidding me? Numberphile still has the ASTOUNDING: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + ... = -1/12 video up (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-I6XTVZXww)) despite numerous requests from mathematicians to take it down, since it paints an inaccurate picture of math and gives the general public the impression that math is just crankery and wordplay, which doesn't actually have any meaning. His channel barely has any math, just the number equivalent of clifford the big red dog - oh look how big the dog is!

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + ... = -1/12 is true you fucking moron. How long will brainlets claim otherwise?

Have you ever considered putting a bullet through your head? 1 + 2 + 3 + .... + n goes to infinity as n goes to infinity, so the series diverge, you absolute fucking moron.

Of course the partial sums diverge you absolute mongoloid, that doesn't mean the series doesn't have a sum.

the closest thing it has to a sum is infinity you fucking brainlet

>the only valid definition of infinite series is the partial sums
fuck off you 3 iq shit stain
the fact that the finite partial sums grow without bound has literally no bearing on the infinite series
induction only proves things for the natural numbers, so it proves that 1+2+...+77 = 77(77+1)/2
but infinity isnt a natural number you retard, you can't make any case against 1+2+3+... with your baby fucking 1+2+3+...+n = n(n+1)/2

The set is well-ordered, and the first element is 0.
The successor function is S(y)=y+1 for any given y that belongs to the natural set.

1-1+1-1+... can't be 0 or 1, so what integer is it?

Unironically, numberphile is pretty much the sole reason why i got into math and now im going to college to study it. For college math the channel is not that relevant, however it does a terrific job of presenting a difficult concept or topic in a simple manner so that anybody can understand it, regardless of their mathematical background.

If string theory used 1=0, they'd come up with some mathemagical bullshit to "prove" it.
