Why do kids take several years to learn algebra in school when any motivated kid could self teach the entire topic in a couple weeks?

>> No.10440119

Because the school system is shit

>> No.10440128

Because schools are made so even the dumbest ones can learn the topic.

Common education is not a place for smart people, it’s made for commons.

Because teachers hate teaching math and have been trying for a century to get rid of it.

>teaching unmotivated kids algebra along literally everything else at the level with a couple hours weekly during which the children aren't even paying attention
>versus you yourself spending several hours per day on just algebra with actual motivation
Any other answer is irrelevant. Rarely there are really bad teachers, but even good teachers only have so many hours assigned to them.

I'm not sure with algebra but I remember in Calculus there were a variety of problems the teacher would put on the board where there was a certain way to solve them that wasn't intuitive.

maybe math education should make kids interested in math.

I only gave a fuck about learning math when I started to make games and realized how usefull was all that dumb high school shit.

How would you teach algebra /sci/? What parts of the standard curriculum would you cut out? Would you even have a standard curriculum?

Aww, that's a good one. Although I would argue that most kids just want to play on jungle gyms and eat mud.
