Should I choose classes knowing I'd have to eat all by myself at the cafeteria? Or should I choose ones that let me go home for a couple of hours but start later in the afternoon?

Going home and then going back to university sounds like a waste of time but eating alone brings back the feels.

It depends: if you can choose the same course you might ponder the idea.
I always prefer eating at home as you actually eat good food and spend much less.
You have to see hoe much time it takes you to come and go.

It's the same course held at different times.
It takes me around 40 minutes either way.

MInd you, I'd only have an hour to eat at university so I wouldn't suffer that long :)

So, now I don't understand you.
When I was in university I always wanted to eat in the university as I could meet a lot of people and have fun.
I would often go home or some friends house to eat as it's way cheaper.

I don't understand how you are troubled about being alone in university; aren't you going to be alone on the train and at home as well?

Chose classes based on what you want your future to be. Lunch is half an hour, studies a few years but work is a lifetime. Also remember your mind is normally the sharpest in the morning (unless blind drunk the night before).

And don't go home in breaks, universities are more than just studies, networking is crucial.
