Most savants can calculate large numbers or memorize things, I can basically skim read equations and understand them without any background in study, things interuniversal teichmuller theory, etc with some ease.

Freshman year, I had a Astronomy course very heavy on the math part of it. I would go to lecture, and do the homework due that week in the ten minutes before lecture. Tests I've never studied for.

My friend in the same class spent hours studying and doing the homework, and we got similar grades, some of the highest in the class.
