Alright /sci/entists, I've been reading all kinds of articles and it seems that genetic research/modification is going to have a massive take-off in the somewhat-near future.
I'm looking to see your predictions. I predict that:
>genetically modified pets will become more and more popular (not just hypoallergenic, but "designer" pets and super-speciallized show animals)
>genetic vaccines will almost entirely replace regular ones, and the anti-vaxxer community won't be able to complain because there are no "dangerous metals" or anything involved but a particle of tungsten or gold and genetic material
>genetic modification will allow for "designer babies" that are smarter/stronger
>genetic modification for grown adults will be more available than vaccines, with "purchasable genes" allowing for enhancement of all kinds
I'm not saying we'll all have super-powers, but just think of the (commericial) possibilities!
pic related, obvious stretch

Do you have any legitimate proof that genetic modification plays into your little "Jew conspiracy"?

Actual Genetics student here.

Effectively where we are on our understanding of genetics is the same as we were when Enigma was made regarding computer sciences. It doesn't matter what an engineer can do, because realistically there are a limited niche number of engineers to do their stuff. What we need is the golden bullet where we can turn our understanding of simple base pairs into an understanding of wider systems, so a future hypothetical genetic engineer will have a limited understanding of the base code of genetics, but will have a much more expanded understanding of the programming language of genetics.

That has to happen before you see any wide spread adoption of any genetic alteration; otherwise what you have is effectively a very expensive esoteric science that only a limited number of people will practise and will only be used by large organisations in very limited tasks.

First you have to prove that current vaccines dont even have any long-term health issues because currently we've never studied it.
>The committee found no evidence that a trial has ever been conducted to evaluate the entire immunization schedule
>Experts who addressed the committee pointed not to a body of evidence that had been overlooked but rather to the fact that existing research has not been designed to test the entire immunization schedule.
>studies designed to examine the long-term effects of the cumulative number of vaccines or other aspects of the immunization schedule have not been conducted.

Call vaccines as safe as you want, just know they've never studied them for anything beyond causing harmful effects for more than 5 days. Take thalidomide as an example, perfectly healthy but then long-term studies showed it to be extremely dangerous and detrimental to babies causing deformed kids without limbs. Wheres the proof it's not affecting our children with long-term studies since they also do not test vaccines effects on pregnancy either?
