>Sickle cell trait is most prominent in Africa and South America
>Coincidently these areas have high cases of malaria
>People with sickle cells are actually less affected by malaria

Is sickle cell trait a mutation that arose from constant malaria exposure?

People without sickle cell trait were more likely to die before breeding than those with sickle cell trait

Same goes for thalassemia.
This is a fact, not a speculation.
There are numerous researches on this.

How can we manipulate this?

>> No.10397298

>>10397285
we're on the verge of being able to manipulate the gene in germline before people are born which could end this problem. Only problem is Dr. He already shit all over genetic engineering for people and that'll probably set this back for years.

Wouldnt the concept of people being born with top tier Genes invoke some jealousy between those born before, and cause some sort of divide between the populations?

I mean losing your long time job to a gene baby cant sit well.

I don't know. I already have the gene.
If I had kids with a woman who also has the gene there is a significant chance the kid would have thalassemia.
But if this happens the docs can just abort it.
So aren't we already manipulating it?
And btw malaria is a retarded disease.
You can get rid of it by manipulating the environment and drying up the swamps.
There used to be a lot of malaria till a couple hundred years ago, then they dried all the swamps and poof it was gone.

yes it's a pretty interesting bioethical dilemma we're gonna be in
