How is infinity even real? I know you can mathematically prove it but if you can't apply that to real life doesn't it just mean the theory is wrong?

>How is infinity even real?
It's a concept. We don't have an example of anything infinite in our world, but in maths we idealise and assume perfeftion. So no smallest objects exist there, therefore we can do something infinitely. In real world, if there wasn't these limits, it would be true too. But the physics applies perfect maths to real constans, and it is theirs tasks

You can sort of apply it to the real world. Using PID controllers and system stability, you can control response rates and see if the system goes to a point or becomes unstable. Systems will usually go up shit crick pretty fast if they are unstable, but there are the rare cases where the right variables at the wrong times can fuck up a system response.
To put it in relatable terms, a cars cruise control uses this system to take in variables like wind resistance, incline, etc and maintain roughly the same speed. If the system were to become unstable and not have any safety features, the car might infinitely speed up until it burns out or slow down until it refuses to move at all.

There is no theory of infinity, little guy. It is a tool that in the right context allows us to manipulate mathematical functions in new and useful ways.

>How is infinity even real?
by definition, it isn't real:

https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=infinity
An unbounded quantity that is greater than every real number.

x>r can't be true for real r and non-real x so infinity must be real.

Archimedes and the turtle are real finite things represented as an infinite but just because you can represent them that way doesn't mean they're really non-finite.

God exists
Therefore infinity exists

You can't apply it to the universe with the physical laws that govern it. It doesn't mean that it doesn't apply elsewhere.

Even if it isn't real, it can simplify discrete problems.
It's easier to integrate x^n from a to b than it is to sum a^n + (a+1)^n + ... + b^n.
Euler-Maclaurin summation bridges that gap.

Last Thursdayism, prove me wrong that everything in the universe was created last Thursday, all memories and fossils and everything were created last Thursday. Even though you can’t prove it didn’t happen doesn’t make it wrong, you just have to make a lot of assumptions to believe it. This brings along Occam’s razor which states less assumptions probably make it more feasible. I forget where I was going with this. OP is a faggot for arguing semantics

Infinity is real not a theory, but it is not always practical to compute fully. Example compute exactly a third of one in base ten decimal, the computation would last for infinity or you can say whatever, use fractions or a good enough approximation instead.
