Is it inevitable that we will look back at todays current culture/technological level, in the same way as we look back today at periods such as Ancient Rome.

i get your point but your example is kinda misplaced, we still are a greco-roman society in fact the idea of "wester world" can be define by that greco-roman influence...politics, law, society, language, arts, philosophy, architecture....
