Yeah, that's pretty much the reason I chose criminal justice with an emphasis in criminal law. I never planned to work in law, but simply because it sounds fancy and I can bullshit my qualifications it made getting a job easy. I just ended up working in a hosptial because I told them I studied a lot of laboratory biology in school.

Why doesn't a Math degree automatically imply you can learn anything very quickly? Pretty sure I could learn anything a business major can do in like less than 6 months.

Can confirm. As a former STEM major who fell for the business major meme, the entirety of content in my undergrad could be learned in such a time span; even a brainlet could do it in a year. 80% of my classes (most were finance, marketing, and management classes) were just a rehash of the previous semester's material.

Because you don’t know how to develop AWS Lambda services & enterprise micro services. You weren’t taught how to implement cloud based enterprise data integration to 3rd party data resources and don’t know anything about unit testing. automated UI testing, TDD etc.

This is why companies would pay 100K+ for such skill set, and why you’d be able to apply for jobs in the service industry at the minimum wage level.

Your skills are equivalent to someone that doesn’t even have a college degree.

You can get the certificates for those in a couple of exams in a week. Next to no CS grads will have experience of any of that.

Most pure math majors I met can’t code. Let alone pass leetcode hard problems. Pure math degrees are great for getting min wage jobs or jobs that don’t require degrees.

Whether a math major can get AWS cert easily doesn’t mean much if they can’t solve 5-6 leet code hard problems in a short time interval

I paired it with a minor in French. To the average person "I have a bachelors of law with an emphasis on criminal justice and a minor in French" sounds pretty fancy. I bullshit my qualifications by telling them I had to take a bunch of forensic science classes (I didn't there is a specific emphasis for forensics). I don't do anything fancy, I'm a radiation tech assistant. Basically I just look at x ray photos all night long. I work graves and x rays during the night are pretty uncommon, except for trauma patients and the odd emergency, so they don't need a dedicated radiologist. Since I'm not "medically trained" I don't make decisions on patient care any way. More or less, I process the photo and upload it into the computer so the Dr. Can access it on the medical unit. I don't make a lot of money, roughly $50k a year, but for a bachelors degree in a non related field, I do pretty well. They never checked my transcript, they just called the university to make sure I had a degree.

To get started with machine learning, I recommend The Elements of Statistical Learning by Hastie, it's a bit old, but's it's got all the math down. Then use kaggle and online ressources to learn the practicle code stuff.

My dude.

Step 1. Learn statistics/probability

Step 2. Apply it to human behavior. It sounds much harder than it is honestly.

Step 3. Build a model based on that shit

Step 4. Implement it

Seriously people will give their info away for no reason whatsover. This isn't original whatsoever but people still do it to save like $2.00 on a bottle of wine at Walgreens.
