They are meant to have a more than decent electric motor system.

I'd think this was trying to muddy the waters after his SEC shit and libel with Unsworth on twitter, which is seen as a serious outlet of his views and company stuff... except for it working against him in this case as far as I can see.

FTFY
I was originally going to post because I thought the title implied Nikola Tesla's patents (why I thought Elon had any is beyond me) which would probably useful, but no instead you get an overengineered coal powered battery on wheels.

Okay, I've worked out what's happened. One of the most valuable aspects of the business is the charging network and fast charging, this allows anyone to build compatible systems with this. They're going to open up the chargers to non-Tesla companies, probably conversions using Tesla parts and clones. Could also bring down the cost of parts from Chinese knock offs, I don't think that should lower insurance but it might.

Because web journalism is a fucking joke.

Elon tweeted it and news outlets have jumped on it like it's hot news, not checking the date on the blog post.
It's probably still true, that all their patents are open for use without paying royalties, but it's also not "news".

That fag is throwing obsolete bullshit to flood the market with garbage, so he could strike the market with his secret developments.

Here in Ecuador we had the "bright" idea to use his 2014's patents to build electric cars, I bet all that stuff are just basic ideas and schematics that a fucking latinan-ogre couldnt figure out.

What patents did Tesla even have? We have had electric cars, cameras, batteries, variable speed drives, electric motors, and computers for the better part of the last century. The only thing i can think of that is unique to Tesla would be their software.

Most of their research has been on motors and controllers. FVDs tend to produce a lot of noise and there is plenty of room for improvement as electronics improve.

"Better" is hard to define, do you mean:
higher efficiency
lower weight
higher output
better cooling
longer lasting
cheaper production

Remember that Tesla isn't making million dollar supercars and is instead trying to make a car that the average person can afford and daily drive for a decade or two.

This was literally about the superchargers where the biggest cost is installing them, not the r&d. They were hoping other carmakers join them and everybody installs superchargers which would have helped Tesla a lot. This happened in 2014 and elon retweeted that for some reason. But its even more ridiculous how many People arent understanding that this is 5 years old news.

>VW in VWGroup is literally car of the people.
And they lied about emissions and started setting up the same planned obsolescence hamster wheel every other major automaker did.

Musk is in the rare position to be able to force change by dumping what other car companies would sit on for decades (save for maybe Volvo, which stagnated), and making it financially viable for other companies to expand into electric vehicles because most of the work is already done for them componentwise. If it wasn't for people like him, Linux would be behind a paywall and licensing hell like Windows and a ton of other annoyingly proprietary software. Of course we can't expect companies in general to do the most altruistic thing and *actually* innovate for efficiency instead of creating their own captive market and beating money out of them. Sometimes, people step up and see the benefit to mankind instead of thinking about how they could maximize a profit margin.

The free market is an annoyingly cyclic, oligopolistic, and sociopathic beast, but at least it's better than socialism for innovating. It just needs a kick in the ass to keep it in the competition stage and not the coagulated morass that begs to be trust busted.
