does anyone know of scientific data on how the size of the mammaries correlates with lactation ability? for example, is there a linear correlation between, say, mammary volume and milk production volume, or can small mammaries get the job done by working more "quickly"? or does a lactating female experience different subjective feelings during the lactation period depending on their mammary size?

most of the volume of breasts is fat tissue; milk glands don't vary in size so much across females.
the real (evolutionary) advantage of big tiddies is that more fat tissue = more energy resources for growing a fetus = higher birth weight = better likelihood of survival. it's also an honest signal of foraging ability, which affects the quality of offsprings' genes and also how well they're fed.
