>acelerate to the speed of light

>you're nw 20 lightyears away from the Earth let's assume acceleration was instant)
>due to relativity, the Earth perceives the time it took for this voyage as 2000 years
What would be the point, even if it was theoretically possible to travel at light speed? For the peopleon Earth, it's as if I was moving at 1/100 of the actual speed of light, since it took me 2000 years to reach a destination that was "just" 20 years away. At that pint it'd make more sense to just move a hundred times slower.

Who gives a shit about what Earth sees? Point is, you made it to your destination in a mere 20 years.

yeah, no, the trip would be instant for you and the universe will have died of heat death by the time you arrive

But if I were to travel that distance to get something for the Earth and the back, I'd be 2000 years behind schedule.

This gives me a question: what is the optimum speed if you want to travel x lighty ears in as little time as possible from a stationary viewer's perspecitve?

Because you lived for the entire “2000 year” journey. You dont see the benefits of that?

Just move the sun and the earth along with it to the solar system you want to explore, then you don't have to worry about time dilation killing everyone you know back home.

Someone should warn you that only massless objects can travel at speed of light.

Not really, since I did not perceive those 2000 years at all. I left everybody back at home and the world I may one day come back to will no longer be the world I left from.

>> No.10304073

if you went fast enough, the earth would perceive you as having reached your destination in a little more than twenty years
it would feel like much less to you
if my understanding is correct

if you'd move at the speed of light relative to the rest of the universe you'd be instantly at your destination because of length contraction. from the point of reference of the rest of the universe you'd still need a year for every lightyear.
