Anons help;
I just went to college at 27 after pissing my life away. It's in Florida, and I am doing very well. Deans list for all semester, 4.0 GPA, and I understand the material intuitively.
I am in the Electrical Engineering A.S. program, and I'll be moving to bachelors soon.
Problem is; I can't shake the feeling that I am too old. Everyone in my classes is the classical, "I wanna be engineer" type that realizes half way through a class that it's too difficult. But the teachers just allow these people to pass. It's ridiculous, and it feels like a game that I am a pawn in.
I learn so much more on my own. Why am I doing this? Why am I around degenerates that can't understand simple math?
Is it worth it Anons?

If you take chem, don't take gen chem, it's pretty boring, although a necessary foundation if you want to be a scientist. I've heard 4A/B is awful. If you're interested and took chem in high school, just take Organic (12A/B). Organic is when start to you actually understand reactions and be able to do things. Synthesis is great problem solving too.

That's an advantage. Your life experience makes you more determined than the flaky 18 year olds of which the majority will drop out or switch to something else. Just focus on yourself and, when you transfer, on getting to know professors and the students who you think will succeed the most (again your life experience helps here). Usually the only trouble faced by older students is the difficulty of classes due to their less flexible brains but you don't seem to have that problem. Godspeed.

Saying that I could have gotten into any STEM undergrad in Ontario, I absolutely don't regret leaving Toronto and not going to UoT. Chinks everywhere, and from what I hear from the people I know who go there, a very backstabbing mentality across the board. And I'll probably be better prepared than people doing similar programs at UoT.

>I hope you're prepared for an unforgettable luncheon. Do you think the industry is getting saturated with ChemEs or is it just autists that can't get a job?

I'm from Sweden, and here in Sweden we have educated and graduated ChemE students at the same rate that the market has demanded them, everyone who studies ChemE pretty much ends up getting a job in the chemistry bussiness here.

I think, and I'm almost convinced, that the absolute majority of ChemE students / grads who post here and whine about unemployment, or employment rate this and that, are americans or are from some other english speaking country.

You are the ones who suffer from the fact that english is the internatiuonal language, anyone from a foreign country who speaks it can migrate your countries and apply for a job.
Then include India in that mix. The fact that Indians speak english as their secondary language and they graduate in a country where they don't have any jobs in that industry, then yea, Indians are gonna want to migrate to a country that they already have the language of and that has a promise of a job to them.

We don't have an over-saturated market that employers can pick from here in Sweden, it gets even thinner when they want to hire someone with experience. That can not be said for countries like the UK, Canada, Australia or the US
I think the commonwealth countries are even more fucked than the US because of their migration agreements that allow indians and pakis virtually free access to their job market.
