4. no. started $45k as i just wanted experience in a different field. I had only worked as an engineer in a field I didn't want to work prior (construction). Had an offer for the company I worked for to start $65k, but didn't want to pigeonhole myself into the industry. Make 55k now but hate the work.

Considering going back to construction doing survey work. The work was more technical than I do now. Grades were fairly shit in school, though would like to go back to grad school at some point.

I did my MS research on experimental condensed matter, with a focus on radio frequency material characterization so it really helped me build a good marketable skill set. If you do an MS in theory or just course work I'd say it's probably not worth doing. You have to accept that you'll be looking for engineering positions, but I'd say it was worth doing.

Yea an MS in physics is a tricky thing, since at best it means you learned enough to get a "real" job, at worst it means you'll struggle to find a job because it's not worth paying more for an MS student when a BS student in EE/CE could do it instead. I'm lucky because my current boss got his degree in physics so he actually knows what skills will transfer over to the real world

First full-time job: Started looking for a job around 3 months before finishing my thesis, turned a couple offers down and started my job a month after graduation.
>earning
Significantly less, but that's because
a) I live in central Europe, where cost of living is relatively low compared to the US, and lots of benefits like health insurance are included.
b) I live in the region of my country where wages are lowest; I was willing to compromise on monies to be close to family and to work in a company with people I like on things I find interesting, in an area that's fun to ride motorcycles in and where cost of living is even lower than in the rest of the country.
My salary is still way above national average, and it's enough to live comfortably and have some not-quite-inexpensive hobbies while still saving up.

fuck.
Are master's in math a meme, assuming they're funded via a TA position? I don't really wanna spend my life in academia so I wouldn't mind it being a terminal degree, I just think taking graduate classes for a couple more years would be cool. My math professor told me his PhD was just like his undergrad (classes and homework, just harder) for the first few years.

On the other hand, I have this feeling that I might regret not going for a PhD in math when so many others do it no problem.

Math is essentially a PhD degree, anything below is a waste of time and money.
If you have the opportunity to go for an engineering minor or maybe a major the math part will weigh in for you, I'd say something math heavy like aerodynamics or civil engineering will be good, maybe logistics, especially if you can use your math skills in simulations and FEM/FV. Don't give up, you just need something useful along with your math degree.
