After /biz/ defended its title as most brainlet board on 4channel, maybe /sci/ can prove it's mildly educated in highschool math

What is the point of these threads? Do you think this is the first time this has been posted here this week? Are you just trying to piss people off? Do you think this is actually a good measure of intelligence?
I need to know for my study on retarded people.

So the fun thing about these problems is that you can actually choose arbitrary numbers for x and y and there will be a solution (usually multiple) for z.

Like say we set x=4, y=2, then the problem reduces to:
4/(2+z) + 2/(4+z) + z/6 = 4
then we rewrite that to
z^3 + 6z^2 + 44z + 100 = 24(z+2)(z+4) <=> 24z^2 + 144z + 192

So with any given 2 numbers you can find a solution, and if error is acceptable you can even just do a really quick newton's method on this.

Btw, the solution I got for z using newtons method by hand was approximately -0.859234...
