I'm a 25 year old accountant but i absolutely hate my job and want to go switch to a different career path.

Now, i've noticed that i have a huge interest in documentaries and articles about physics (especially stuff like gravity, light, magnetism, etc). Is this interest a sign that i should study physics and maybe get a physics-related job in the future?

I have my doubts, because while i find it all very interesting, i don't know if i'm smart enough for it. It could also be that i'm just an enthusiast and maybe i should just stick to watching/reading stuff about it without pursuing a career in it.

There is no correlation between documentaries and actual physics, just as there is no correlation between serious maths and olympiad problems, no correlation between biology and animal planet, no correlation between economics and finance movies, no correlation between being a cop and CSI and no correlation between being a doctor and House.
Accounting is just about the only job that is exactly what people think it is.

Take a beginner physics class and see if you like it.

I mean accounting isn't rocket science but it does require some intelligence and most importantly conscientiousness. Just be wary that making a switch is a long multy year process and it won't be easy. Speaking as someone that is currently in this transition it will be tough. You can change yourself but it will be difficult to change how people see you.

What did you start out with?

You must love math if you want to pursue physics.

Well i definitely find math interesting, but then again i've never had to deal with math on the high level that you get with physics, yet. So do i love it? I honestly don't really know yet.

Everything is shit. Don't change careers

why? too busy sometimes?

accounting should be an okay gig but if you dump it for physics that's a huge mistake. only exceptional physicists are employable, the rest flip burgers or kill themselves.

I have nothing to add to the discussion but yeah these two

Elaborate on this, please. I'm also in the process of doing it.

He could always become a high school teacher.

44 year old accountant here.
what do u hate about it?
curious, i don't like my career either

If you like physics you can study it yourself or go to uni, but don't expect to make any money doing it. If you want to do it, invest money somewhere so you can live off the passive income, like buy a property to rent.
