Why don't people on /sci/, or really the internet in general use proper grammar? Hell, I'm not even asking for perfect, just maybe at least capitalization and punctuation. I am well aware that I sound like an asshole right now, but how am I supposed to take your post seriously whenever you can't even bother to hit the shift key?

I'm not sure if you understand the basic idea behind language. That idea is communication. If my idea is passed to you, that communication is successful.

You don't need proper grammar for successful communications. It just has to be easily understandable.

"Proper grammar" is a myth. Language, in a very similar way to living organisms, is a constantly evolving thing. You can try to define a language - all its rules, all its words, all its meanings - but such a definition would be out of date even before you finished writing it.

That's above and beyond the fact that English on the Internet, heck, even 4chan, is very different from spoken English.
