This period (around 2000AD) will in the future be considered the best time in history to have been alive.

Don't agree. It will just keep getting better and better, like Futurama.

Just like people in the year 2000 think of the 1500s as the best time ever. Oh wait...

It's great right now, we live like kings. How long is that going to last? There's a chance there will be another big war very soon. Based on our history I don't see the world turning into a peaceful pristine star trek type world any time soon, if ever.

While transhumanists have always had ridiculously unrealistic expectations, I still gotta give them respect for being essentially laymen who are still interested in science, and that's really all we can ask for. It's your average people backing space programs that get the government to fund them, if some wackjob transhumanists have to tell them that this will put them a step closer to having wings and shooting fire out of their hands to get their support, it's fine by me.

The claim that we might never achieve global peace. Look at how much closer we are now than we were 100 year ago. True, we split the atom and used its destructive power for evil. But soon enough we'll let go of those bombs and learn to use it for good. There are a lot more peaceful minded people than there were 10, 50, or 100 years ago. I think peace may come sooner than you think.
