I want to become an engineer of some sort (electrical, mechanical or biomedical). I’ve went through some maths and engineering books in the /sci/ wiki, but then i stop halfway through a book and think, ‘what the fuck is the point?’ I want to make a significant difference to the world of engineering but i know that’ll never happen. What the fuck should i do? What are you doing, /sci/?

>> No.10142440

>>10142429

it depends largely how old you are and mature, most of rigorous math becomes understandable when you are older, because you don't really see a point in the rigorosity when you are younger

all the definitions and proves wont make calculating things easier, often times may even complicate things at first

but after a while when you think about these things, how and why number fields need to constructed etc. you'll understand why it was done in this way and you'll also understand the proofs you just memorized or didnt understand at first

most people who study maths dont understand everything and every field, they usually focus on one field and just pass by in the others , i suggest you to do the same and not get hung up on the fact yo udoint understand everything and the point of everything

99.99% of all research is meaningless bullshit, because to get ahead you ahve to produce something rather than something meaningful

set your priorities, and if your goal is to contribute something meaningful, start working on problems , because research that is problem oriented is the most honest and also fruitful

>What the fuck should i do?
Take a course at a University. Biomedical doesnt really teach that much in depth compared to mech and electrical egineering.
Since you are interested in those fields i would suggest that ECE is probably the best choice for your tastes and aspirations.
If you are not taking an engineering course then there isnt much of a point to start already reading books about maths and electronics. IMO it would be best to start up as a hobby to get you more into it. Either programming, making robots using arduino or some shit like that.

Then work, anon. Please, please don't sit idle (you WILL regret it). Do not expect the first job you get to be your dream job. The reason you must work is to get money and capital so you don't starve. Every single one of your ancestors over thousands of years worked, don't break the chain. You kiss ass because it gets you something you need.
You will never work for someone who "appreciates it." You will work for someone that is a little bit ahead of you and is advancing their own goals. Do not let this dishearten you, and keep your eyes on your prize.

Starvation is the motivator in third world countries. Nobody who frequents /sci/ can live on the edge of starvation for the simple fact that he or she hast a device and access to internet.

you are a victim of capitalism and you lost all respect for yourself.

the only work that will really feed you reliably is doing farmwork yourself but that was the need of the past, we have society now where feeding oneself means sometimes working on oneself and not working for others.

In your world an artist should never create an artwork if there is no commission for it because that would mean he would spend the time he could work for others to work for himself.

Imagine if everyone would think like that.

I will work if someone needs my work.

No you don't. This meme ruined my life. I have a job that pays $62k a year in downtown Seattle installing thermostats in elementary schools. The median income is here is $120k, so I'm almost at the threshold to qualify for low income housing. Still, it's better than my friend from school who weren't able to find any jobs at all.

Nice try Shlomo.
There is no "price" that can be achived by working. You will just achieve wasting your life persuing other people's interest.

Reality is, a worker is the price, human time cannot be weighted with any sum of paper, and exploitation of man by man should have been long gone in the 21st century.

Someone has to drive them to town, someone has to stock them.

Communism expects voluntary work, as the consequence is starvation of your population.

But it's much less people involved compared to capitalism, where people have to outcompete each others and work for the benefit of the CEO instead of the benefit of themselves.

Eventually robots take over.

The problem is that your work is not very valuable. In this system, there is already someone who is both willing and more qualified, which is more than you can say. what follows will start with exactly what you want to hear but it has a twist:

I would ask him if he has food for free and he will say yes and that he actually has so much he can't store it all without it going bad so he asks me to take some free food with me to other people as a favor.

thats the reality we could live in.

you know in third world countries you can't just spread your wings and go find you own place with the money from your own work. hell you cant even feed yourself because people like you who think they are entitled to a house with garden and a car. there is not enough habitable space for this lifestyle anymore and living with your parents far into your adulthood is normal for most of poor people.

and it's AUTOMATED first and foremost. Every human who goes through the manual work of growing plants actually LOSES MONEY in comparison.

all the work for food arguments are made invalid by automation but somehow some people still think the more wealth accumulated, the better. Maybe for oneself but not for society and not for humanity. all average people can have enough food to survive, hard workers should be able to live better ofc but not by the margins we have today.

How can a single person have money worth a trillions tons amount of food.

The really smart rich people literally did what you hate so much, they provided people with food without demanding work in return and they didn't give to charity because of publicity.

They wanted those people to be independent from exploitation and free from slavery; and that's what all smart people should want for others.
