It's okay. You build up the maturity over time by reading lots of proofs, knowing a good amount of theorems, and understanding the implications of the definitions/theorems. It really is one of those things that you get better with after lots of self imposed practice

If you spend even an iota longer trying to piece together understanding rather than doing rote memorization/copying, you'll soar over your peers.
