Psilocybin mushrooms - a threat or a possibility? There's some evidence that they might be useful for treating anxiety and depression.

>> No.10110409

Depends. I’ve had major anxiety and panic attacks on shrooms and acid. Tripping is not fun when you are in a bad state of mind so I do not see why it would help a depressed person

I think we need to point out that mushrooms are not being tested as an antidepressant pharmaceutical, but as a part of a larger treatment involving cognitive-behavioral therapy in combination with psychedelic substances. These drugs have a rather profound effect on the brain so it is imperative that they are used in the right context when it comes to mental illness.

There was some interesting research being done with them and kids with really extreme schizophrenia. Another whefe they were using it on prisoners during theraphy and rehabilitation. Then they became scheduled drugs and all legitimate research was halted in the us.

Antidepressant is already a pretty loose term, so it's not like you couldn't classify it as an antidepressant. I mean, we call SSRIs antidepressants and they don't do anything of the sort.

>that amanita m'lady pic
Amanita mushrooms are super dangerous. Yes they contain ibotenic acid and muscimol which are both psychoactive but you can poison yourself extremely easily especially if you are picking random ones in the wild.

Now psilocybe cubensis is a great way to help depression if dosed correctly (most people who take too much the first time are usually traumatized from the experience, namely demon figures in dark room atmosphere kinda shit). When I refer to magic mushrooms, I mean the cubensis and closely related species like the azurescens (most potent). Magic shrooms are great for invoking change of mood, slight to moderate visuals, enhanced color saturation with trails, and laughing at a fucking wall. I wouldn't suggest eating dried caps. Even though you can it tends to create more and more stomach nausea as dosage increases, which can drastically effect a trip depending on a variety of factors and is generally unpleasant and can expose your body to nasty shit. You can lemon tek the shrooms (real lemon juice freshly squeezed, try not to use concentrate) by putting dried caps in a container at room temp covered for 20 to 30 minutes. Some teks say to put in fridge and that works but temperature shock and possibility of moisture is bad in general for shrooms so I try to avoid it. THE BEST WAY to dose shrooms that I have VERIFIED is to put the desired amount of dried caps (don't grind, you can but it's unnecessary and you will have to filter if you grind it) in a 500ml container and cover with Mountain Dew Ice to your desired volumetric amount. Let sit for 6-8 hours room temp covered. You can see the blacklight reactivity from psilocin extract in the clear acidic lemon soda glow blue. Mountain Dew Ice contains at least 1% real concentrated lemon juice and is acidic enough to work. It takes longer but tastes waaaaay better than mushroom lemon juice. The best part is it's clear so your can see reactivity under blacklight.

I took a extremely high dosage amenita muscaria and i had a insane trip for years. I saw the world explode at first. It was fucked up strong. I had a panic attack and was left with trouble breathing loss of balance and trouble with almost crying all the time for maybe six months. After that i started having horrific visions and pictures in my mind. Very awful stuff. Then i started getting voices and after awhile i got haunted by demons. And now two years after i still suffer from the aftermath. What i really wanted to do was to attain enlightment and nirvana in a much faster way than meditating for 15 years. I succeeded halfway. I had some holy experiences and i got to communicate with god, the devil, demons and more. It opened my mind to the spirit world. Coolest thing i saw was fenrir wolf. Shit was cash.

I forgot to mention i removed the poison and dried it or i would have died.

I also noticed something else. I knew a spot where there were a few amenitas every year. And i found two very mature and potent mushrooms. I knew the spot it had been there since i was a little kid. And i was lucky they were fully grown and huge. So i had lots of good mushroom. Think it was middle of august with perfect wet climate and cold nights. Perfect exemplary of amenita muscaria.

But cool thing is now two years later i went back to look at them and there was now a huge pile of mushrooms there. The place flurhished with it. Was probably houndreds of them. But i noticed they was small in size. So i think you must have old shrooms to get the big potent ones. Which i had. I had a perfect couple of it. So all in all it's been the trip of my life. And i had this heavy depression from it to because all the horror. But seeing the light gave me strenght and now the depression is over and theres only sunshine. I feel so good and strong and wise now. I recommend to do it but be very carefull. I used amphetamin to land on it and cure my depression. Because the depression you get after everything is fucking heavy.

May the light be with you.

Usually the nausea causes that, which is eased by making tea rather than eating then. Beyond that just staying in a reasonable dose will prevent anything too bad. There's no reason to go above 5g, i've done so a couple of times and it's like having a seizure minus the convulsions.

It's not widespread, it has quite disctiminatory conditions so as not to fall under other delusional, mood or personality disorders. If you completely came back to normal afterwards i would say likely not but you say it "opened you up to the spirit world".

I don't find it tough or inspirational, but complaining it is bad because it may be hard for somebody is retarded.

It can do amazing thing, as it is way to alter brain chemistry.

If I had to choose between xanax and mushrooms fucking up brain more, I would say xanax is more harmful.

People drink a lot, and hangover is not easy either and it doesn't makes them tough.

Mushrooms do SPECIFIC stuff I like them to do. However it seems like thinking more, instead of alcohol induced less.

No, schiz- in general refers to various psychotic diseases but schizophrenia is posited to be a singular one with increasingly understood physiology. Reduced basal ganglia volume, increased dopamine receptors and a few abnormal pathways. It may turn out to be different but its not understood as a syndrome.

>>10114168
I can give you three differently acting substances with enough large dose your condition would be without knowledge classified as schizophrenia, being something totally different. I wonder what are neurological causes... Could you enlighten me a little bit more? Papers are really too much for me, there are plenty of it, I would like more information on less piece of data.

I know there is some NMDA hypothesis, in which glutamate receptors causes dopamine to be overreacting.

But also problems with acetylcholine stuff seems to have simillar symptoms as schyzophrenia, also possible to release more dopamine.

I think it dwells somehow on noradrenaline a little bit too,

Wouldn't some allosteric modulation of dopamine reaction be better than simple antagonism?

>> No.10114356

Hard to say. Anecdotal evidence incoming but in my case during last 2 years I had 4 acid trips and 3 mushroom trips. Last mushroom trip made me had a monologue with myself and made me decide to get psychiatric help for my depression I had for the past ~6 months.

Although I suspect I had depression hiding in me way before that because during my second acid try I had a bad trip. I basically imagined myself in one of those classic psychiatric ward cells with white padded walls which kinda looks to me as if my subconscious trying to warn me about my hidden mental illness.

In a neurobiochemical way I don't think it really helped me (last 2 mushroom trips were when my depression was on its peak), didn't soothe the pain just made me take action.

It could be interesting way to try medication for schizophrenia, even if they've got just one. Maybe along with some another stuff that helps with memory problems that is in research for Alzheimer's... I see schizophrenia as incorrect formation of memories, misrepresentation of them. It's problem of interpretation of what person experience. And short term - long term memory information exchange is where that could occur.
