pic related is one of the most famous theoretical physicists in the world, his most cited paper is this:
>The Hierarchy Problem and New Dimensions at a Millimeter
let me break this down
the heirarchy problem: gravity is a lot weaker than the other forces. if you compare the strengths, like divide the strength of gravity by the strength of electromagnetic forces, you get a very small number. okay fine. the argument is: i don't like small numbers.

literally that's it. small numbers aren't "natural", they're "fine tuned" blah blah. small numbers are bad.

now the argument continues:
in order to make the number not small, we introduce that the universe is on a membrane in 5+ D space. ta da! number is now approximately 1. GREAT SUCCESS
>8500+ citations from across the physics community
>CMS and ATLAS test it, and find no evidence
>citations continue to roll in endlessly

does this seem legit to you guys?

Universe being in more dimensions than observed makes sense but they way he derived this conclusion is ridiculous

It's interesting depending on how much freedom he had in defining the dimensions and how close the result is to 1, but no experimental evidence kills it.

well not completely kills it, but the specific n=2 with r=2mm he points out could be tested at the LHC was tested (look up the CMS and ATLAS microscopic black hole searches) was tested and that was killed

The underlying assumption that gravity is "a lot weaker than the other forces" is literally schizophrenia tier pattern seeking delusion or psychological warfare for satisfying people with very limited imagination. There are exactly three spacial dimensions with one imaginary dimension to represent time. Any theory or claim that in any way violates metaphysical realism is instantly invalid by default. Not just because such a claim is intrinsically unfalsifiable but because literally no good can come from this line of reasoning, it's a dead end.
