I was thinking of doing a physics degree now because I really like it, would it be a waste of time though? I have mostly an interest in Quantum Mechanics and Astrophysics.

Or should I just go to a masters/PhD?

I'm 25, btw.

Is doing a second bachelors after your bachelors a thing people actually do or is it just something manchildren on here throw around because they're desperate to stall out another couple years of their life before they actually have to do something?

I don't know, that's why I'm asking if it's a waste of time or not.

Did you start your undergraduate late or did you take longer to finish? I'm curious since I also finished my Bachelor's degree when I was going on 25 years old.

I started at a shitty university, got tired of it and changed to the best one in my country when I was 21.

So, how are things going for you?

I pretty much did the exact reverse of what you did: I started out at the best university in my country and had to transfer to a lower tier one in my home city after a couple years due to mental health problems. I had no academic issues (I was in the top 5% of students in my year), although my academic situation might have exacerbated my social anxiety because I decided to do the equivalent of something like a double major/double degree, in linguistics and mathematics.

>So, how are things going for you?
Not great. My early 20s were a huge blow for me and I haven't yet managed to (fully) recover from it.

At first I wanted to advise you not to pursue a 2nd degree, but since it seems you're on an ascendant path, I don't know, maybe it'll work out for you. This anon >>10007679 also seems to have a point imho.

It's not a waste of time if it's work done towards your self-actualisation. Do you want to become a mathematician? Then you'd be better off going for a PhD. Do you want to become a physicist? You could jump straight into a Master's degree (taking extra catch-up courses, or studying on your own) with a focus on Astrophysics or Quantum Mechanics. Do you want to get a job? Learning some other marketable skill (like programming) might be more useful than going back to school.

Well, my situation is not that good either, It's a little sad knowing that I could have finished my degree at 22. I feel like the top research institutes in my country would prefer younger and brighter minds. But anyway, there's nothing I can do about it, I decided that I'll just go wherever destiny wants me to. If mediocrity is the only thing that awaits for me, then so be it, I won't leave math because I really like it.

Thinking about it now, perhaps doing a 2nd degree really is not ideal right now...

>>10007751
I wanna be a mathematician. I just have a big interest in Quantum Mechanics, I'll probably just study it on my own.

Did you know anyone who did that?

Yes. Physics is just applied math anyway. The particular admission requirements depend on the university/program, so go check those out and see what you need to do to pass and enrol.

OP I'm 25 and will be finished my math bachelors pretty soon too. It tears me apart knowing I wasted the best years of my life. I look around my classes and think, fuck, you guys are like 21 and have so much life ahead of you. What the fuck am I doing here with you. I should have a masters by now.

As I'm nearing the end of this phase I want nothing more than to finally move forward on to the next stage. I couldn't even fathom starting over again.

Yes. It's faster if you go to the unemployment office before getting another worthless degree.

>As a Math BSc.
>should I just go to a masters/PhD?

PhD is required to work in Academia.
I recommend to do a PhD in Math.

If you love Physics & Astronomy specialist in Mathematical Physics during your PhD.

I think that a BSc in Physics
is a waste of time.

If you don't want to do PhD, then
Masters are enough to get Job
in Biz Industry as Actuary or Quant.

You can get CodeMonkey Jobs too,
you can learn it through online courses
without going back to college.

wouldn't you need like more than a year just to get the second bachelors? if so, i would question the time taken
>because I really like i
this is legitimately important
if you can do math you can probably do the difficult parts too

idunno, it depends how long the second bachelor's will take to get
you could also look into applying for a physics phd right away (personally don't see the point in a physics master's), but your options would be limited with a math degree

Just do what you want OP.

If you're financially stable enough go get a physics degree. If you want a masters do that. Also stop worrying about the fact that you're 25.
