My contention is that its a moot point. The majority of the American public doesnt give a shit about anyone but themselves as individuals and are too retarded to realize that bettering their society betters themselves. Ergo the changes that would need to happen to create a truly meritocratic selection system (re accessibility to high quality public education and extra curricular content) will never happen as there is no way you are going to convince the masses to fund it. They wont even pay tax for basic infrastructure and think that its fine the very wealthy should pay proportionally less tax than the poor.
