How did you guys prioritize housing during your PhD? I'm mid 20s now starting a PhD and I have a $3300 monthly stipend after tax. I'm going to school in silicon valley so anything bigger than a shitty closet is $1500/month. Did you find it was worth having a "nice" place to retreat to/study at? I'd like to keep it for 5 years and build a bit of a home.
