So I've been on this site since 2007.
I've seen this board on day 1, I've seen it at it's peak, and I've seen the slow but steady fall and decline.

I have my own theories on WTF happened here. Here are some theoretical ideas. It began in earnest when Trump was running for president for the first time.
It was obvious then Russians were posting here on Trump's behalf. Some even admitted as much, and honestly they've been here much longer than 2016 but this is the first time they had such an obvious modus operandi. Mostly on /pol/ but they didn't stop there. /sci/ was targeted (among a few others) because it was the best place to have rational discourse on 4chan. Rational thought and conversation would put a damper on their long term goals. People are easier to control when they're RE-acting with emotions rather than acting with intelligence.

Honestly people have been trying to turn 4chan into their "own personal army" since the start. All fail but the Trump campaign was the 1st time it actually was successful. (not counting project Chanology cause that was just a honey pot for shits and giggles) This isn't the only way this site has been used by outside forces for personal benefit. There has also been a strong campaign of using this site as a testing ground or focus group for thought control using memes. They mass produce memes and post them to see which get the biggest reaction. This has undermined the natural process that memes arise on this site, in an irreparable way. It will never be the same again. The only memes this site can produce are variations of pepe and wojak now.

i (>>7371198) started as c++ developer at a embedded company last year. before that i was somewhat freelancing for 7 years, mostly in image processing, the contacts came from my uni buddies and a professor. the company i work for does not pay that much at start but raise later when you get your own projects. it a) pays the bills and b) have a lot of interesting people there(some people from robotics research and we got one guy who was into nanotech at delft before starting in our company) and most important c) i got to meet these people, because it made me realize that i'm not alone.... (7 years of freelancing makes you really lonely, i developed a solid depression during that time)

so i dunno if i can give any advice but i looked all job listings for c++ found 4 out of kindalike 100(all the others been java and web shit) and applied: 2 answered, two interviews, one offer after that.

same here;) try to tell the new guy in the company who only learned java to use multiple inheritance and polymorphism, took me 8 weeks to get that "no that is bad because if it would be good it would've been in java also" mantra out of his brain.

my expierence now is: they use java because the suits once decided so because some marketing monkey told them java is great. also c++ is on the rise again, i always laugh my ass off when the some java guys come up with a tomcat web app which consumes 4gb ram when my wt based fastcgi module is like 100 times faster + 100 times smaller.

btw: i experienced that feeling that some skills i leanred are useless too, in the long run no skill you learned is useless.

Because /sci/ is full of high school kids/maths & physics freshmen/ actually narrow-minded assholes with heads swollen up like balloons.
