What's your ultimate motivation for working in science/applied science, aside the obvious (making money, enjoying yourself)? Do you do it just for the sake of collecting knowledge, without thinking further what we do after we have gained enough knowledge? Or do you want to improve society and make people's lives more enjoyable? Aspiring towards utopia or something like that?

What is the best possible outcome you would want to work for?

We should fund research and development of high-tech automated factories for necessities powered by LFTRs that produce the bare minimum essentials for a modest lifestyle to be run by a technocratic branch of government to work alongside the capitalist free market. In other words, innovation at full-pelt accompanied by a safety net to allow the most people to get 'back in the game' to produce goods, services and ideas.

Lets say the year is 2100. All manufacturing and farming is done by machines. Machines also do the mining and maybe even some space mining. There are even machines that make more of these machines. There are some problems though. The machines still cant think very abstract and can only do basic jobs. This is pre-singularity btw.

If everyone has everything they want, nobody needs to work. Which means that there will be nobody to enforce laws or be doctors. These 2 things are required in a perfect society.

You could argue that nobody would break the law if they got everything they wanted. But there still needs to be doctors.

There is also a lot more jobs that just need to exist for a society to work. What benefits would you give these people and why would they need these benefits in a post scarcity economy?

Also how do you stop human nature from ruining this society? Once people have all the material goods they want, people will just put value on something that isnt material and gain power. (Like social standing) People would probably start to work to get social standing. Then it would revert back to capitalism by itself.

TL;DR how do you make a utopia?

LET'S GET ORGANIZED!

Sure there are problems with many people who for various reasons can not work together. But scientists are the smart ones (ok not all but many).

Why don't all smart scientists all over the world come together, throw all their money into a big pot, use that money to buy a big island and built Utopia there?

Utopia would have the best possible education for our children (so it will be an atheist nation forever) and therefore no dumb politically or religiously motivated restrictions on research. Not before long that glorious nation will be able to space travel and built colonies on other planets and moons.

LET'S DO THIS!

What now, athiestfags? Intelligent design was just proven. Life has been created by an existing intelligence.

if all /sci/, science and reason based people moved to an island the size of Australia to build a new utopian nation based on science, humanism, and reason. How long before becoming a 1st tier civilization and making the other nations obsolete and 2nd rate like animals?
